Colin Sempeck

Originally from Nebraska, Colin enlisted in the US Navy for 6 years as an Electronics Technician working on nuclear reactors. Afterwards he received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Colorado State University in 2016. While studying he worked in the Stargell Lab looking for RNA Polymerase II phenotypes in histone chaperone deficient yeast. Following graduation, he started as a lab tech at the Functional Genomics Facility for 2 years, helping researchers get into CRISPR technology. The next 4 years were spent as the lab manager for Dr. Nausica Arnoult at CU-Boulder, trying to decipher the role of the lncRNA TERRA, and building the computational side of a DNA damage repair reporter system. He is now a PhD student in the Hill Lab, after spending a year in the Cameron Lab studying cyanobacteria, and is excited to research the wonderful world of the microbiome!

Outside lab, you can find me playing board and video games with friends, or with whatever flavor of hobby I’m practicing this month (woodworking, crocheting, game development, electronics making, synthesizering, gardening, etc.). I also enjoy being on mountains and in the woods in my camping hammock, hopefully posted up next to a gurgling stream!
